Also important is the smoking/non-smoking room thing.  The French tend to be a bit more laid back about smoking than we Brits, so it's best to say which type of room you want:

could I have a smoking/non-smoking room please? est-ce que c'est possible d'avoir une chambre fumeur/non-fumeur s'il vous plaît? eske say poseebl d'avwah oon shombr fewmer / non-fewmer seel voo play?
